Djurgården in English! [only English in this thread!]
Re: Visiting Sweden
One advice could be for you to look up a Djurgården football game they still play in October so that should be fine. Djurgården play their games at the famous Stockholm Olympic Stadium (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stockholm_Olympic_Stadium). Only a visit at that wonderful stadium is a big tip, as well!

Re: Visiting Sweden
Please Prelude, for your own good, don't listen to this. If you visit the "Stockholm Stadion" and a Djurgården soccer game you'll probably fall asleep within a couple of minutes, and have awful nightmares for the rest of your life. Soccer is a wonderful sport but swedish soccer in our domestic league is quite frankly mediocre at best. Sometimes it feels like doctors could skip prescribing valium, halcion and klonopin for insomnia patients and instead order a (un)healthy dose of 90 minutes of an "Allsvenskan" soccer game. It would probably give better, or atleast as satisfying results.melker skrev:One advice could be for you to look up a Djurgården football game they still play in October so that should be fine. That's maybe true the quality of the Swedish domestic league isn't that good, however IT IS a great experience to be there watching the match live at Stockholm Stadion..-daniel- skrev:Please Prelude, for your own good, don't listen to this. Especially for a tourist from like USA they have never been do this sort of atmosphere. And hopefully our team plays a piece of better football at this time of the year compared to now, sadly.

Re: Visiting Sweden
I have thought about going to visit the Stockholm Stadium from the pictures I saw it looked amazing. However not so sure for a "Football"/ Soccer game. I know they do tours of the stadium also but I don't think they do in October.
When do the SEL schedules typically get released? I would love to buy tickets to a game played at Hovet, we will already be heading to Globen Arena for the Wings game.
I would like to head to a decent moderately priced restaurant nothing fancy. I also plan on heading to Bars and Stars in Vasteras, simply because I heard Nicklas Lidstrom owns it.
If there are any nice shopping malls or anything of that sort to head to that would be awesome.
Also one big question I have had that maybe someone can answer. Where would the cheapest place be to get money exchanged.

Think it's the cheapest place in Sweden that you can find near an airport.

Re: Visiting Sweden
I've never seen a soccer game in person. Although what I see is that they are quite enthused and somewhat fanatic. Of course that's because what is being shown are the riots caused by the fans. The one thing that bothers me about soccer is that it can end 0-0, it just doesn't seem right.melker skrev:That's maybe true the quality of the Swedish domestic league isn't that good, however IT IS a great experience to be there watching the match live at Stockholm Stadion..

That sucks because if that is the cheapest then I could only imagine how much other places charge. It shows that if I "bought" $800 worth it only gives me $724 equivelant.mannge skrev:Look for a big yellow sign named "Forex". http://www.forex.se

Note: if it seems like I am repeating myself it is because my boyfriend and I are using the same name.

Re: Visiting Sweden
The schedule is still preliminary so it is not yet official. But it will start will start the 21 of September with two matches Färjestad–Skellefteå and Linköping–HV 71
What I have heard is Djurgårdens first match at home against Modo 09/26
Here is two more videos
This year special event

What to see in Stockholm depends of your interests.
A visit to the warship Wasa the only remaining, intact 17th century ship in the world and maybe the city hall where the Nobel price dinner is hold.
A boat trip in the Stockholm archipelago is very beautiful, but it is maybe a little bit late on the season to get the best out of it.
You can use your credit cards everywhere so it no needs to exchange money.
However, if you need to do that you can go in to any bank.

Re: Visiting Sweden
The fans sing so loudly, I love it. What are they always saying? Or am I mistaken and it just sounds similar. But these are just special events, not regular season games. Either way, it's very cool to see. I don't think I've seen anything like it. So organized merely because the people are so into the entire team and experience. I can't wait to go!
I thought about the credit card thing. But I'm pretty sure that every time you purchase something it charges the international fees every time. Rather than taking out a large sum from, perhaps a bank or an exchange office. I'm not sure how much the fees have gone up, because I'm sure they have, but going to Mexico it was only 2% a few years ago. These other places are trying to charge 10-20%.
The ship does sound interesting. I do like the historical aspect of everything, but I also like to see the modern style of Sweden. I think it's the differences in cultures that interests me so much. Maybe it'll be a little hard to find, or it's something that must be experienced rather than seen, but it's what I keep reading about.
Thank you all so much for your responses. You have all helped me a lot. I hope you'll be able to think of more things, or tips for us

Ok so any one who dont live in stockholm dosent speek good english?ludde- skrev:Most people in Stockholm speak english without any problems, so you should be fine without knowing swedish.Prelude skrev:If anyone has seen, I am visting Sweden (Stockholm) in October and look forward to making it to a Djurgården game. Aside from that, though, I was curious if anyone would like to put forth any opinions as to what a visiter should do or see. Typically tourists would go to museums and things like that, but then often miss many other things that are more interesting and more meaningful. I'm also wondering what you might typically do, or find normal. What do you think should not be missed by anyone?
I think it's a little strange. I've looked long and hard for anything about Sweden, about their hockey and culture, and am reaching very far by asking any of these questions to all of you. But I suppose I feel you would give me honest and straight forward answers. I could go to a tourist agency, but it just doesn't seem right. That's not what I'm looking for. I can't speak Swedish, I can hardly read it (although I'm trying), I just hope most or all of you can understand me. I don't know if those translators are accurate enough to convey what I'm really saying.
Thank you
I don't really know what I can recommend you to do though, depends on what you like and what type of person you are.
There are good restaurants, good pubs, etc etc.
You should visit Gamla Stan (Old Town) though, many old buildings and so on.

Whatever you do, do not visit Solna.

And.. I was under the impression that all of Sweden was good with English except once you reach a certain age point. I just wasn't sure if it would be more appropriate to know the native language of the country you're visiting.

Re: Visiting Sweden
Now you can start to plan what homegame to attend to:
Guess one of theese would work for you.
If your attending to the Red Wing game the third of october, why not take the DIF game first at 16:00 , and then walk 50 meters to Globen..
Im planing to do the same myself..
Säsongen 2009/2010
Elitserien
26/9 MODO Hockey (h) Hovet, 16:00
3/10 Brynäs IF (h) Hovet, 16:00
6/10 Linköpings HC (h) Hovet, 19:00
15/10 Rögle BK (h) Hovet, 19:00

Re: Visiting Sweden
Are Hovet and Globen really that close to each other or would a bus or train be involved also? We are going to the game on the 3rd so that would be awesome.
